She will appear in the Junior Solo Division this season. Julia Ann is a sophomore from Charlotte, N. C., and is a music student of Miss RIary Ruth Haig. She has participated in two com petitions this year and has won both competitions. In the final com petition in which she won the right to appear with the North Carolina Symphony Orchestra, she ))layed "Concerto in D Minor” by IMozart. RCMA Presents First Concert The Raleigh Civic Music Asso ciation i)rcsentcd its first concert this year October 23 in the Ra- 'cigh Audtorium. The j)rogram, at tended by thirty girls from St. Clary’s, featured The Singing Boys IVIexico. Composed of thirty-two ^’oices under the leadership of Maestra Luis Berber, this choir bas an extraordinary history. Betty is a senior from Rome, Georgia, and was formerly Assistant Editor. She is active in campus activities which include membership in the Letter Club and president of the Choir. She partic ipates in all Sigma-AIu activities and is a member of the Swimming Club and the Altar Guild. Betty is a Mu. Linda Harris, a senior from Con cord, North Carolina, has assumed the duties of Assistant Editor of the Belles. She was an active mem ber of the Belles staff last year and was formerly News Editor. Linda is a Mu and a member of the Y. D.C., the Y.W.C.A., and the Dra matics Club. Mrs. Williams Sings On Tuesday, October 30, St. yiary’s was honored to have Betty Voiden (Airs. Charles F.) Williams present our assembly program. Airs. Williams sang ballads and folk songs of all types, which she has gathered while traveling all over the United States, Alexico, and Europe. Besides making appearances, she has made records for the Vanguard label. Also, she is President of the North Carolina Folklore Society. Accompanied only by an auto harp, Airs. Williams sang such known ballads as “Black is the Color of Aly True Love’s Hair” and “Who’s Goin’ to Shoe Aly Pret ty Little Foot?” Alumnae Contribute To Oklahoma On Friday night, October 25th, the Carolina Playmakers first pre sented their production of “Okla homa”. The critics said that the show had the same spirit and ener gy that made the origional pro duction a success. Among the ac tors and actresses who greatly con tributed to the show were three St. Alary’s alumnae, Carolyn Aly- ers, Alarilyn Zshau, and Sally Lewis. The Raleigh Times had this to say about Carolyn Alyers— “The part of Laurey, one of the leading characters, was played by Aliss Carolyn Alyers. A vocal bles sing, she sounds a bit like Jane Powell and is certainly as beauti ful. Her charm, grace, warmth, and brisk pertness—not to detract from her extraordinary voice—con tributed mightily to the produc tion.” a Alu,
